SELECTED PROJECTS
Each unique ECHO building is designed and constructed by our team, in-house and off-site , at our workshops in the South of Scotland.
Commissioned as one of two Treehouses for the Astley Estate in Norfolk, Meander's form and detailing takes its inspiration from the individual trees in the ancient woodland that surrounds it. The bark and the heartwood are expressed in the design of the cladding and the materials; the circular section of a tree trunk is represented in the form itself.
The tiny, self contained 'Tree Hoose' at Taigh a Chnuic was engineered by Echo to be airlifted onto a steep, woodland site overlooking Loch Broom in the Highlands of Scotland. The dramatic Tree Hoose exterior is clad in random width, black stained Siberian Larch with curving black corrugate tin panels.
Taking its inspiration from the organic forms of the woodland, the undulating roof sitting atop curved timber walls recall tree tops; the details on the cladding and balcony balustrades are a nod to the gently angled trunks of the surrounding trees. Inside, floor to ceiling windows and circular roof lights frame the views of the woodland and its canopy, and flood the space with dappled light.
Echo's Long Shed collection grew from a commission to design a 10 metre movable weekend retreat for a rural site in the North East of Scotland. Since then we have built a variety of Long Sheds, including: a permanent dwelling; an off-grid version with a vaulted roof; and the longest one yet at 12m long, designed to be transported to a Scottish island site. Each version has been designed to maximise daylight and views with large floor to ceiling windows, and use of the 3.05m internal height to accommodate an extra loft bed or mezzanine office ...
This is the original off-grid, modular Pyramid Cabin designed and built by Echo for Brockloch Farm, in Galloway , back in 2013. It featured in the very first series of Channel 4s 'Amazing Spaces', and Echo won a Scottish Edge Award for the innovative modular concept.
The most southerly member of our collection was commissioned by a yoga teacher from Glasgow for her site in southern Crete. We created a solution that protects the integrity of the tiny site and preserves its ancient trees.
The bespoke cabin was designed to be shipped to the remote site on a single lorry, and was installed under the shade of three ancient olive trees.
Caerlaverock Tree House was designed and built by Echo for Caerlaverock Estate and is nestled in a small wood on the property, overlooking the Solway Firth and the beautiful view across the Solway to Criffel summit. The Tree House was designed and built to compliment Caerlaverock Estate’s first Echo cabin, The Curve, which sits 400 meters away on the adjacent farmland.
Am Falachan Roundhouse sits on a steep sloping bank on the side of Loch Broom, and was designed to provide a flexible space to be used as self contained accommodation and as a meeting space for yoga and other communal activities.
