THE CABIN AT MEGGERLAND
Dumfries & Galloway

M

Meggerland cottage sits on the Solway coast, and was commissioned by a couple with a passion for collecting contemporary art and mid century design. The cabin's considered interior is home to a collection of beautifully curated pieces .

The  angled design of the cabin exploits the view to the sea,  with a sheltered balcony projecting out over the cascading burn below. It sits modestly to the side of Meggerland cottage and conceals two integrated storage spaces .

The exterior is clad in black stained Russwood Thermopine ,which creates a discreet finish; the ingoes are in a contrasting  natural finish .

The entrance sits at the crux of the cabin , and opens on to an elegantly tall lobby with doors off to the living space , shower room and double bedroom - the perfect setting for a classic  pendant light.

The living space has a sliding pocket door out on to the balcony, with a stunning view to the sea and the setting sun . The section of the room is a nod to an archetypal pitched roof house, creating volume and elegant height.

A maple- fronted kitchen unit sits at the opposite end, with a  bright orange worktop, fridge , sink and domino hob - behind it a window  positioned perfectly to frame another  view the burn and over a small cut-away patio.

A sliding door off the lobby opens on to  a small shower room, concealing its unexpectedly bold patterned tiles - a generous statement  in a small space .

The double bedroom is minimal, and decorated with the owners' trademark elegance. Additional storage space has been 'borrowed' from above the bedroom, accessed externally at the rear of the building.

Solar panels integrated in the roof feed back to the grid , and the cabin is kept warm  by underfloor heating.
