BROCKLOCH OFF GRID TREEHOUSE
Brockloch Eco Retreats
"Brockloch Treehouse is unique!- and we will be back !!
The cosiest space EVER …amazing attention to detail - so many clever, beautiful touches"
Brockloch Tree House Visitor's Book
This unique contemporary treehouse is designed as a romantic, off grid retreat for two, and is perched high amongst the trees on the edge of a Galloway farm.
The distinctive curved cabins sit on top of larch pole legs, their larch clad walls perforated with tiny windows that frame the trees and let in the dappled woodland light. Corrugated sheets wrap the pods in a nod to the local farm buildings, and the elevated structure leaves the woodland floor below undisturbed, with bluebells carpeting the ground below every spring.
The treehouse is off grid, powered by solar panels, with gas cooking and water heating. It's highly insulated with thick layers of sheep wool, and is rented out year round; a wood burner provides extra heat in winter if needed .
The minimal, self contained accommodation is beautifully planned with a hand painted sideboard-style kitchen; wood burner; bed space; and quirky bathroom. There is no fold away furniture to battle with in this space, with its luxury Finn Juhl Poet Sofa and hand painted table and chairs for two. The space is light-filled but secluded; large rooflights above the bed and bath fill each space with light and frame the dark starry skies. Fifty hand painted box-frame windows create walls of tiny views like paintings in a gallery. A top hung shutter at the end of the bed opens to reveal the view - a hanging galvanised bucket hangs outside the cabin counterbalances the shutter.
Designed to compliment Echo’s first build for the farm, Brockloch Bothy, both the Bothy and the Treehouse have featured in a variety of articles and reviews, and on Channel 4's 'Amazing Spaces'. It was been voted one of the Guardian's top 20 places to stay in Europe in 2015, and the treehouse won a Commendation from Dumfries and Galloway Councils Inaugural Design Awards in 2016, and both buildings feature amongst niche rental platform Canopy & Stars' 'Architectural Marvels'.
