Curved bands of Western Red Cedar create the distinctive curved cladding flowing over this one bedroom, off-grid cabin overlooking James Clerk Maxwell's  famous 'Happy Valley' in Galloway. Floor to ceiling windows illuminate the daylight filled space, and glazed patio doors lead onto the decking from the bedroom and kitchen. Horizontal slot windows in the shower room  and bedroom capture the east and west light and frame views over the rooftops and the garden.

A grid of charcoal grey cladding compliments the timber wave and the interior's pale spruce walls, now turned golden by the sun. Five  solar panels integrated into the cabin’s brise soleil  power the cabin's 12v sockets and LEDs. Fittings and finishes used in the Wave include Kast’s concrete basin; CEA’s beautifully engineered tap; Formica’s VIVIX cladding panels; and Baubuche’s stained beech floor.

 

A solid beech  bench runs the length of the cabin below a recessed shelf,  creating the worktop with set in hob and sink.  A white enamelled wood burner sits on the bench with set in hearth,  creating the focal point for  a cosy lounge space.

The  cabin has  returned to Galloway after being commissioned originally as a temporary home on site during a  house renovation in Devon. The Wave was  originally showcased at  Grand Designs Live in London.
