This two bedroom, off grid cabin  was designed as rental accommodation for a north facing, coastal site on the Isle of Mull, and was prefabricated and delivered to the site by road and ferry. It has planning permission as a dwelling.

 

The building is designed to maximise daylight and the views of the bay, with large picture windows and patio doors onto the balcony. 

 

The accommodation is on two levels and comprises an entrance hall on the upper level leading onto the galley  kitchen and down into living room.  Also on the upper level, a shower room,  and two double bedrooms sharing  a balcony and views over the bay;  one is ensuite.  Steps lead down into the living / dining room,  with patio doors opening  onto the main deck. A window seat with a wood burner  runs the length of the space, and a Nordpan floor with white Osmo stain compliments the spruce lined interior and  grey-blue coastal palette.

 

The 55m2 off grid cabin  is powered by six solar PV panels on a south facing roof section; cooking is by bottled gas; and  the building is super insulated with  double glazing and thick sheep wool to all walls, roof and floor.
