Twin Cabins
Lochawe Cabins, Argyll

The twin off-grid cabins were designed to perch on the hillside at the foot of Ben Cruachan overlooking Loch Awe, . their generous glazed fronts take advantage of the stunning views over the loch and the hills beyond.
Each cabin sits along the edge of an existing driveway, each discreet entrance accessed via a private courtyard behind the sheltering timber wall.
The elegant accommodation is on two levels with the kitchen, shower room and sitting area on the upper level, and king size bed on the lower. The split levels, generous ceiling height and floor to ceiling windows offer an uninterrupted view out over the loch from the rear of the cabin, and the small courtyard, accessed form the patio doors on the upper level, provides a secluded and sheltered outdoor space .
Natural materials have been used in the interior which is lined in spruce panelling, with a bamboo floor on the upper level and stairs, and natural sisal carpet on the lower level .
A sliding door conceals the shower room lined in Black Diamond Richlite panels made from recycled post consumer paper. Black shower room fittings create a dramatic small space.
A compact, minimal kitchen, with a ColorCore worktop and birch ply door fronts, houses a hob , fridge, and sink , with storage above and below.
A steel fireplace was constructed to surround the wood burning stove and create a log store . It sits centrally in the space and divides the two levels, with a breakfast bar extending from the fireplace across the upper level.
Micro venetian blinds on each of three floor to ceiling windows, offer levels of shade and privacy from below whilst offering a view over the loch .
Clad in Siberian larch, the building is super insulated for year round use, with double glazing and thick sheep wool to all walls, roof and floor. Solar panels integrated into the courtyard walls allow the cabins to operate off grid.
