Secret Studio, Senwick

Senwick Step Down Cabin Plan
Senwick Step Down Cabin Section Showing Levels

Located near the Artists' Town of Kirkcudbright, this self contained, off-grid cabin incorporates a separate artist's studio.

Perched on the water’s edge , the living space offers a  boat-like perspective with the gorse-edged horizon framed in one direction and woodland in the other.

One of our Step Down series, the cabin is designed with a split level interior within the  main living space offering unobstructed views across the lochan from each level. The prefabricated cabin  meets the planning designation for a mobile home, and the levels take  advantage of the maximum allowable 3.05m  floor to ceiling height.

The cabin is designed to connect with nature and bring the outside  in. The minimal timber lined interior has generous  floor to ceiling windows, a ribbon window at bath height and  a shuttered skylight above the bed, making the most of the expansive views  and the Galloway dark skies.

Insulated with thick sheep wool, and  with cosy wood burner and double glazed windows,  the off grid cabin is deigned for year round use. 12v lights and sockets are powered by solar panels, hot water and cooking is by bottled gas.

Throughout the space, bespoke furniture  and  hand built integrated fixtures include the brightly coloured kitchen unit, side board, built in bed and a retro Formica topped table.  creating a playful interior.  The galley kitchen runs centrally through the space and  has an integrated  hob, under-counter sink, and fridge. Its orange Formica worktop and birch ply door fronts are  echoed in the detailing of a side board in the adjacent dining space. At the end of the kitchen, a full height  window frames the water and the fields beyond.

The daylight filled living space with a lower level sitting room perches over the water's edge. separated from the he mid level dining space by a double sided cabinet; a discreet built in bed sits on the upper level with views across the water  the farmland beyond.  A  neat bathroom with a Lino floor has a  freestanding bath with a view across  the water.

The studio space has  two full height corner windows positioned to fill the space with a consistent  light, providing the perfect space to meet the needs of any visiting artist.
