Designer and Founder, Echo Living
Sam Booth’s multidisciplinary design practice has been responsible for a wide range architectural, interior and furniture projects. He has combined his experience as a designer, innovator and skilled cabinetmaker in our collection of prefabricated, sustainable timber buildings for Echo.
Projects include Homes for the Future, Glasgow City of Architectural & Design; Rogue Restaurant, Edinburgh - Theme Magazine Best Restaurant UK National Award winner; The Lighthouse - Scotland’s Centre for Architecture & Design's interior & graphic design in collaboration with Barcelona’s Javier Mariscal; and The Hallion Private Club, Edinburgh; Rogue restaurant in Edinburgh , winner of Theme Magazine Best Interior UK National Award; and The Dogs restaurant in Edinburgh, both for city restauranteur David Ramsden. He has also undertaken a number of private domestic commissions.
Publications featuring examples of Sam's work include: ‘1000 Chairs’; Highlights of British Design; ‘Furniture for Interior Design’, a practical guide for designers, of which Sam is co-author; and 'XS:Small Houses Big Time', featuring Brockloch Bothy Examples of his illustrations can be seen in ‘A-Z Sketchbook of School Build and Design’.
Sam’s innovative ‘Oritetsu’ folding metal furniture was short listed for 100% Design's Best New Product, and has been purchased by MOMA, New York, and his work has been selected to represent UK Design around the world by DTI, British Council and Glasgow City Council, at venues including the ICFF New York; Museum of Applied Art, Cologne and Glasgow School of Art.
Sam has been involved in education at all levels, working as visiting tutor in both the Interior and Product Design departments of Glasgow School of Art and Edinburgh College of Art, involved in Senses of Places, the Design for Schools initiative, and devising CPD workshops for primary and secondary teachers at the Lighthouse – Scotland’s Centre for Architecture and Design. He is currently engaged with 'Upland' as a Modern Maker working with a group of young people from Dumfires & Galloway on a design and build project, and as a flying academic with ECA, working with design students at Donghua University's Shanghai College of Fashion and Design.
